Isidora Edwards: cello

Luigi Marino: percussion, DIY circuits

Isidora and Luigi began playing together just after the end of COVID-19 lockdown, but then Luigi moved out of London, and opportunities to meet became more sporadic. They reunited in June of 2022 at Café OTO for a night of strings and percussion curated by Biliana Voutchkova, yet it wasn’t until 2025 that the duo could truly be reactivated. In the meantime, both remained active, performing and recording across a wide range of projects and contexts.
Their first recording, captured live at the mighty Cube in Bristol, documents their first extended set together, finally free from time constraints and was released by Scatter Archive in 2026.

The 39-minute free improvised piece investigates how the acoustic, amplified, and processed cello can correspond with the bowed cymbals and DIY circuits, first by contrasting Edwards’ acoustic cello with Marino’s distant, almost industrial, electronics-tinged drone, and later on, by blending these contrasting sonic palettes into a resonant, alien sonic organism, through delicate forms of friction and pressure, or by sketching a mysterious, disorienting, and fragile dream-like texture. This sonic journey ends when Marino picks the Persian goblet drum, zarb, and brings this piece to its acoustic conclusion with Edwards’ bowed cello embracing his restless rhythmic explorations.
